Reigniting the Lost Spark Can Be Done in Any Marriage!

Maybe you and your spouse have been married for so long and have gotten so used to each other that you think there is no way to reignite that lost spark. Or maybe you assume that because your schedules are so full and the children and everything else makes such demands on you that you just can't fit in any romantic weekends away, and are too tired to enjoy such a time even if you could schedule it.

But don't give up, not yet. That lost spark can be reignited in any relationship, no matter how long you've been married and no matter what else you have going on in your lives.

The first step obviously is to make your relationship a priority. It's interesting how so many couples make everything in their lives a priority except themselves and their own relationship. Even their children's soccer game or school project is more important than their own marriage! But you absolutely must make your relationship important to the two of you.

The second step is to think small. You don't need to necessarily plan those long weekends away - although those are nice too! - in order to reignite your lost spark. You can send the kids to a babysitter's house or have them all spend the night out and just have an evening together, or just a few hours. Schedule play dates for all the kids on a Sunday afternoon, and talk with other couples about your plans. One Sunday you take their kids so they can get away and another Sunday they take yours, and so on. Even if it's just one afternoon a month, this can go a long way toward helping you feel close with your partner.

The last step is to turn off the television. While there's nothing wrong with curling up with a movie, it's important that you spend this time together and without outside intrusions. The TV, cell phones, email, and everything else should be taboo for these few hours. Go for a walk or pack a picnic lunch or even just walk around the mall, but remember that this is your special time together and is not to be spent taking care of other things or in allowing outside influences to get in the way.

Just these few small steps can help tremendously to reignite that lost spark, no matter how long it's been gone!
